BOOST Application

Role: UI/UX Designer

Tools: Figma & Adobe Illustrator

Duration: January 2022 – April 2022

The main purpose of the BOOST application is to provide users with physical disabilities a platform that minimizes the difficulties of performing everyday tasks.

THE PROJECT

  • OVERVIEW

The ”Making Accessibility Accessible” project aims to create a digital application that will aid the lives of users with physical disabilities. The final design interface will be used as an assistive tool for users with physical disabilities who typically cannot complete common day-to-day tasks comfortably or with ease.

  • PURPOSE

Inspired by applications like UberEats, Lyft, and CornerShop, this digital interface will integrate all the accessible features like having personal shoppers and chaperones from these applications into one.

  • GOALS

The accessibility features of these applications certainly do not address all accessibility issues, therefore, this project will also aim on improving the missing key features in these same applications. The final designed interface will fill in the gap between technology and people with disabilities that many existing applications fail to address in the present time.

PRIMARY RESEARCH

  • THE RESEARCH

This research studied the structure of popular digital interfaces – a total of 15 applications were selected. The goal of this research was to understand the structure of popular digital interfaces and to understand how well accessibility was integrated into them. An important note to consider is that not all disabilities could be examined for this study: Visual, Audio, & Mobile Disabilities were the focal point of this research as these disabilities were the most commonly encountered in well-known digital platforms based on the studies conducted.

  • FINDINGS

In these findings, the visual accessibility of these well-known platforms averaged about 71%, audio accessibility at around 67%, and mobile accessibility peaked among the three and averaged roughly about 73%. These results mean that all of these digital platforms averaged about 70% in accessibility, so for every 10 users of each platform, 7 will have no issues accessing these platforms and 3 will have issues pertaining to their disability. Although these digital platforms averaged above 50%, it is safe to say that there is room for major improvement with accessibility, given that these are the most used digital platforms.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

  • COMMUNICATION

The latest news about travel routes and shop deals will be provided in the platform so users can make informed decisions when purchasing and/or traveling

  • EXPERIENTIAL

The platform will allow them to feel at ease as they are still able to perform everyday errands without worrying about their lack of physical abilities

  • BEHAVIORIAL

Users will overcome the barriers of their physical impairments as they will be able to achieve completing physical tasks more comfortably

TARGET USERS

  • PRIMARY

The target users of this application are permanently/temporarily disabled users and users of older age who have trouble completing tasks that require physical ability. These users will benefit the most from this platform as it will eliminate physical inability from being a factor of not being able to complete errands and typical day-to-day tasks

  • SECONDARY

The secondary users of this application are abled users who are looking to save time or need a helping hand in running their necessary errands. Although they are not the target users of this platform, these users can still benefit from the platform as it allows them to complete time-consuming errands with higher efficiency

  • TERTRIARY

The tertiary users of this application are pro-accessibility organizations and accessibility advocates that want to help create a change in their communities. These users will be hired by the platform based on their community engagement backgrounds and knowledge on accessibility. They will then be classified as shoppers/chaperones of the application and will be in charge of deliveries, pick up/drop off services, and custom needs as specified on the platform
